The Benefits of Paraffin Wax and How to Use it

Since its discovery around 1830, Paraffin wax has been known for its many beauty and health benefits, making it popular and well-used amongst individuals, beauty bars, and health care professionals alike.

Paraffin wax is a natural emollient, making it ideal for many skin conditions as well as a popular treatment at spas for your hand and feet as it is known to increase blood flow and skin moisture for naturally supple and beautiful skin. What’s more, the moisture levels continue to increase long after treatment is complete, meaning your spa doesn’t have to end once the service does.

On a cosmetic level, the wax helps to open pores and remove dead skin cells, which creates a rejuvenating effect by making your skin appear more supple and youthful. It also acts as a barrier to lock moisture naturally produced by the oil glands in your skin as well as block impurities from the environment from easily entering.

Internally, the wax can increase blood flow, reduce muscle stiffness, and produce heat, which all lead to its therapeutic properties of relieving arthritic pain and fibromyalgia.

These properties make this product popular not only in the shelves of spas, but also in physiotherapy clinics where practitioners use them in a similar way to help their patients.

What’s more

What’s more, because paraffin wax is a natural emollient, it is broadly considered safe to use on sensitive and eczema prone skin. The wax is not usually known to irritate skin and most people with sensitive skin are able to take advantage of its health and beauty benefits. In fact, when other treatments fail, paraffin wax can often be safely used as an unreactive beauty and moisturizing agent.

Typically, the soft wax is melted in a special Paraffin wax heater and after a manicure, pedicure or a physiotherapy treatment, hands/feet are dipped in the melted wax several times to coat a thin layer. Following application, your service provider will put your hands or feet in a plastic bag and seal to lock in the air. After a period of 10 to 12 minutes and once the wax has hardens, the bag will be removed and the wax can be peeled off. You will notice a moisture buildup, and after removable, your skin will feel naturally moisturized and clean.

Paraffin treatments can be a fun and effective way to gain youthful skin and health benefits. However, while these treatment are generally considered safe for use, any new application or treatment should be tested for skin reactions before you try it for the first time. So what are you waiting for? Give them a try at your next spa visit and let us know how it made a difference for you!
